Above are swatches of just a few of the new Kat Von D Shades (Each one swiped one time to show how truly pigmented they are). Overall, each of the liquid lipsticks that I have tried so far from her large collection have all performed the same.
The applicator itself is a traditional thin and convenient wand suitable for any sized lip; which is good for those of us who don’t have a large canvas of lip area. It makes it easy to just glide on the product with ease. As for the product itself, it feels like gliding on smooth butter with a texture similar to water but just a tad bit thicker. The product isn’t too thick nor too watery. However, if you take the time to smell these, you’ll notice a faint chemically scent that isn’t too pleasant.
As for the finish, they all dry down to a complete matte without being too drying on the lips, or sticky (This is a HUGE plus for me because a lot of liquid lipsticks tend to be sticky). It should be noted that these do dry down quickly; but as they dry down, they begin to oxidize.
When your makeup oxidizes, that just means that as it is getting exposure to the air, the pigmentation of it begins to change. It may get darker or lighter. This is common with many makeup products including foundations, concealers, etc. Most of the time Kat Von D liquid lipsticks tend to get darker throughout the day.
The way that these have been formulated make them lightweight extremely comfortable to wear throughout the day (A retouch or two may be needed in the center of the lips after eating and drinking anything oily). These don’t give you a dry feeling or a cracked chipping appearance like many other liquid lipsticks do. With these, honestly a little goes a long way. They’re very pigmented so you don’t need to layer it on.
If you do decide to layer this lipstick on, you will begin to notice that it will look thick and sometimes cracked or just weird. Layering them on won’t really make them feel much thicker or heavier, but it can make them feel sticky. Trust me, they’re better with just one thin layer, you’ll be far off more comfortable that way.
